When I started to involve my students in blogging with me, it what primarily to help them with their English learning. It was also an attempt on my part to invite web surfers and other students alike to virtually discover us as well as giving visibility to our school.

My students understood that well. Surprisingly though, several of them being already knowledgeable in searching websites,  asked me: "How people will find us on the internet?" Very good question indeed! How am I going to explain to them my very basic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) knowledge? I started to explain to them that when a company sells its products on the web it was important that surfing people could easily and quickly see their website identity being displayed by the search engines. Having your website displayed on the first page of the search page gives you a better "competitive" advantage of being found (and chosen) than if your website is found on the 50th result page. Insuring their website "visibility"
on search engines is thus very important for them, especially with Google who dominates the internet by the number of search queries it receives. All greedy e-businesses are fearful of Google and want Google to "love" them. For this they are ready to spend enormous amounts of money to improve the SEO of their websites. I personally always use Google for better search results. So "why" Google dominates the internet? Probably because it is smarter and does a better job than its competitors such as Yahoo or Bing.

It only recently that we have created our primary school website, with very little and limited SEO means at our disposal. But Google has not failed us; it has been able to see and understand the true values of our spirit and sharing intentions by giving our website pages prime visibility (first search page results) for most of them.

Thanks Google. Without you we would be nowhere on the web today
