DISCOVER Loy Krathong is one of our most important and colorful festivals. We celebrate it on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month of our Thai lunar calendar (November). "Loy" means "to float" and a small floating raft called "krathong" is traditionally made from a circular piece section of a banana tree trunk. Our krathongs are artistically and colorfully decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, tropical flowers, candles and incense sticks. During the night of the full moon, we make our krathongs to float on a river or a lake. Apart from venerating Buddha with the lit candle on the floating raft, sending away our krathongs is symbolic of letting go of all our grudges, anger and defilement, so that we can start a fresh life anew. during the celebration of our Loy Krathong festival. It is so much fun for everyone here in our village! |
